Spectacular In Seafoam: The Carrie Diaries vs Sex And The City

I have been totally addicted to the new CW show The Carrie Diaries. The Carrie Diaries follows a young Carrie Bradshaw during her junior year of high school in 1984, and explores her life at home in Castlebury, Connecticut and her life in New York City where she undertakes an internship.

AnnaSophia Robb perfectly embodies the character of Carrie Bradshaw. She's likeable, relatable, unlucky in love, a little quirky and completely fabulous. As a fan of Sex And The City and Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie, this couldn't make me happier!

I thought AnnaSophia's Carrie was so reminiscent of Sarah Jessica's Carrie in last night's episode of The Carrie Diaries. Her magnificently poofy seafoam green winter dance dress was so reminiscent of Sex And The City Carrie's iconic seafoam green tutu gown she ran around Paris in during the series finale. This has always been my favourite Carrie look, and I was ecstatic to see AnnaSophia's Carrie rocking the same shade and style. This is easily my favourite Carrie Diaries look so far. I can't wait to see future looks and hope we see more comparisons.

Oscars 2013: My Favourite Looks Of The Night

There were some amazing looks on the red carpet at last night's oscars. I really wanted to share my favourite looks with you so here it goes.

Winner of the Best Actress accolade, Jennifer Lawrence, looked radiant in Dior Haute Couture. The structured bodice showed off the star's gorgeous figure, whilst the volumous train added that much needed red carpet drama. The pale hue highlighted Jennifer's flawless complexion and the minimal Chopard jewels, including a beautful back drop necklace, added a grown up sophistication. Easily the best dressed of the night!

Les Misérables star, and Best Supporting Actress winner Anne Hathaway looked sleek and chic in a pale Prada number. The column style enhanced Anne's elfin beauty, whilst the risqué back and bodice made a real statement and added that "wow" factor. I particularly liked the draped obi tie and Tiffany & Co. jewels. Very Audrey - loved it!

Best Actress nominee and Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain brought sexiness and old Hollywood glamour to the red carpet in Armani Privé. The rose gold hue was quite an unusual choice for Jessica. We have been used to seeing her rocking jewel tones on many occassions, however, the colour really worked on her and completed the vintage vibe of the look. The sequening/beading on the gown added a nice depth and stopped the dress looking too flat and wishy-washy. The scarlet lip added the perfect finishing touch.

Sally Field, star of Lincoln and Best Supporting Actress nominee, looked super elegant in a dramatic Valentino Haute Couture gown. The ruched bodice highlighted Sally's slim waist and the sheer sleeves flattered her arms. The silk chiffon created the most gorgeous drape and movement, whilst the ruffles and pleating added volume and bounce. The Judith Leiber clutch added that much needed oscar sparkle. This was such a ladylike look and I loved that Sally outshone the juniors.

It was all about the details with Avatar star Zoe Saldana's Alexis Mabille Couture dress. The intricately layered bodice looked exquisite and the ombre train brought back fond memories of the magnificent Givenchy couture gown she wore to the 82nd Academy Awards. The cinched in belt accentuated her tiny waist and the figure hugging shape showed off her athletic physique. The Neil Lane hand hardware added a youthful and contemporary edge. This was such a classy yet cool look.

Last but not least is actress, fashion favourite and front-row fixture Fan Bingbing. Unlike many red carpet goers who opted for pale pastel tones, Fan chose to shock in shocking pink Marchesa. The shocking pink made such an impact against her porcelain skin and the matching statement earrings, bracelet and lip colour added a nice touch. Her sleek and simplistic high bun hair ensured the gown was the main attraction. I really liked the asymmetrical sweetheart neckline. It reminded me of Carrie Bradshaw's wedding dress by Vivienne Westwood.

There really were some beauties on the red carpet at last night's oscars. I can't wait to see what next year's will have in store!

Grace: A Memoir By Grace Coddington Book Review

I knew when I started this blog that I wanted to review Grace: A Memoir By Grace Coddington as I hadn't long finished reading it and had never enjoyed reading a book so much in my life.

I'll be honest, I didn't know much about the creative director of American Vogue before watching the behind the scenes documentary film "The September Issue". However, once I had seen the film I knew I wanted to learn more about the flame haired heroine so couldn't believe my luck when the news broke that she would be releasing her memoirs in late 2012. The book went straight to the top of my Christmas wish list and I couldn't be happier when I later received it.

The book spans over 70 decades including Grace's childhood in 1940's Anglesey, Wales where she grew up at her family's whitewashed hotel, her introduction into the world of modelling after winning the young model section of a Vogue competition, her rise up the ranks of modelling, her introduction into the world of styling at British Vogue through to her work at Calvin Klein and her start at American Vogue where she currently remains its creative director.

This book was such a joy to read. I found it magical and highly inspiring. I loved to hear the array of experiences Grace has encountered working in the fashion industry. I loved the witty narrative and quirky and imaganative illustrations by Grace herself. They were the perfect accompaniment to the text giving a greater idea of the moment. Another fantastic feature is the archive of Grace's favourite work at the back of the book.  I was so happy that a personal favourite of mine, the Alice in Wonderland themed editorial featuring Natalia Vodianova and an array of designers, was featured. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the world of fashion, photography or art.

I hope this review helped you and happy reading!

Girly Meets Goth At LFW: A/W 2013

I've been loving the mixture of textures designers have been showing for this upcoming season. We've seen everything from feathers to furs, and tulle to taffeta. I've also been seeing a girly meets goth style emerging.

Someone who usually steers well clear of black in favour of colour and print - Erdem, showed us that he has definately crossed over to the dark side with his collection. In a collection largley dominated by black, I liked how he introduced baby pink to soften the black and break it up a little. We also saw black and baby pink used in a gothic way at Giles. Two looks I particularly liked were the high collared, tie-dye-esque gowns overlaid with metallic gold feathers and tulle. The embroidery on one almost looked like an oil slick dripping from the neck - I loved it!

Let Me Introduce Myself

I'm finally here! After being such an avid reader of many fantastic blogs, I finally decided to join the community as fashion is such a huge part of my life and I really wanted a place where I could come to express my current obsessions and share my views with you all. I'd like to think something I write or show may provide you with a little inspiration or understanding.

I'm really looking forward to my journey here on this blog and hope you will join me.

Thanks for reading,
